Formatting for eBook and Kindle
With printed books, the format is fixed. Your book will be printed exactly as you see it in your uploaded file.
eBooks are very different. They have no page breaks, no page numbers, no index, but must include a hyperlinked Table of Contents and an NCX so that the reader can navigate through the book.
They have to be formatted differently because the text must flow so as to be readable on all the different readers, i.e. iPads, Kindles, tablets and mobile phones. This is essential so that your book looks good, and is a pleasurable reading experience on devices of different sizes.
This usually involves taking your original Word file and stripping out all the formatting it contains, as well as the hidden formatting that Word includes. This turns your finished file into a single page with just paragraphs intact.
We then format the text into the different formats required, i.e. doc, docx, epub, mobi(Kindle), pdf, pdb etc.
eBook cost: £7 per 1000 words
Formatting For Paperback
Once your Word file has been 'proofread' and copy edited, i.e. it is ready for publication, it will require formatting to convert it into a file that will upload to a publishing platform and produce your book the way you want it to look as a finished printed product.
This includes: half-title and title pages, metadata page, front matter (dedication, table of contents, foreword, preface, acknowledgements, introduction), chapters, headers and footers, page numbers, sections, font selection, font embedding where required and back matter (index, afterword, glossary, et cetera).
Please note that we do not currently offer indexing. This service will be coming soon. We will only index based on keywords from the text and this service will carry an extra cost to be negotiated.
Most publishing platforms require a cover file to be uploaded at the same time as the Word file.
Depending on whether or not you are able to complete any of the formatting necessary, and because your project is unique to you and your requirements, we will work up a quote for you when we have received your final script, subject to a minimum charge of £250.
Cost: Subject to quote, minimum £250.
