Proofreader? Editor?
Strictly speaking 'proofreading' is the final checking of the 'Proof' copy that has come from the printer. However, we will use the term as most people understand it, to mean the checking of your final manuscript. We will include proofreading in the copy-editing process.
What Is Included In Copy-Editing and Proofreading
What Is Included? 2 experienced copy-editors/proofreaders We will carry out a number of rounds of editing to ensure that, as far as is possible, the final edited manuscript is free from typos, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, inconsistencies in font usage in the main body of the text and in chapter and paragraph headings. We will also identify copy that needs rewriting. A breakdown of what this WILL include: COPY-EDITING

What Is Not Included? Sometimes it can be confusing when coming from a non-publishing background to understand what is not included in editing and proofreading. A breakdown of what is NOT included in our copy-editing and proofreading service:
Please note: We are able to manage projects from start to finish, but please bear in mind that this will cost considerably more. For example, if a writer is inexperienced, has few grammar skills, and the manuscript requires heavy editing and excessive re-writing, this is similar to ghost writing. We can provide this, but we would need to communicate in detail about your needs and timescale to fit the project in to our work rota. Please email to have a chat about this. |
Testimonial
Kelly's editorial services took this novice writer's words and was able to make them into a beautiful book. I honestly never thought anyone could make a book out of my writing. I'm not a writer by craft, with little grammar expertise. They took a lot of writing with few full stops and paragraphs and created a work of art. From heavy editing, re-writing and proof-reading to formatting my book for print and eBook, to creating the cover design and uploading my book to the relevant self-publishing channels, they went beyond the call of duty. While I understand they managed my project from start to finish, I don't know how else I would have gotten it out in the high quality and expert finish they did for me.

You do this creative bit.. You check your manuscript for glaring errors. Not you. This is what many people call a 'Proofread'. You accept or reject changes suggested. Not you. See: 'Levels of Editing' below. You accept or reject changes suggested. Not you. This is the final review of your manuscript. Not you. This is the final review of your printed or digital proof. |
This process will produce a polished document that is ready for formatting and uploading to publishing platforms such as CreateSpace, Kindle and Smashwords.
If you prepare your files for uploading, you will receive a printed proof or a digital proof which will need 'Proofreading'.
Our services include formatting, file preparation for the different platforms, uploading and proofreading, if required.
Different Levels of Editing
Manuscript Check:

Revision Edit:
- Often called 'Proofreading'. This checks for typos, spelling errors, grammar mistakes and punctuation errors.
- This check also enables us to advise you of the level of editing your manuscript will require.
- This can be a standalone service for those on a budget, or those who wish to do their own copy editing.
- If you use our 'Copy Edit' service, the Manuscript Check is included.
Copy Edit:
- See above for what is and what is not included.
- Manuscript Check included.
- This will involve 'Light', 'Medium' or 'Heavy' editing, which refers to the amount of work needed to bring your manuscript up to the standard required to be acceptable to the publishing platforms and retailers.
Revision Edit:
- This will involve a final review of your manuscript after the errors found during the copy edit have been corrected.

What Do We Need?
We will require your manuscript to be in Word .doc or .docx format. It will be returned to you for revision in the same format, with either bolded corrections, or we can use the Word 'Track Changes' feature if required.
The editing can be carried out via email, file-sharing services such as Dropbox, or via Skype and Cloud services such as Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, etc.
Initially, we would suggest you send via email a 1000-word sample, including your requirements, which we will edit and proofread typically within 24 hours, at no cost to you. This will check for spelling errors, typos, basic grammatical errors and any glaring inconsistencies. I would also advise if further work would be needed.
We also need to know if you prefer English or American English spelling.
If accepted our costs are as follows.
